Lilies (poem)

Lilies

You bring me lilies, my favourite

though you didn’t know that

I put them in a vase &

we celebrated my birthday

the lilies sit on my dresser

losing petals, slowly going

brown, slowly dying

alone & abandoned

though my birthday was now

some time ago, the lilies

still survive, barely

but you are gone

It’s almost my birthday again and this reminded me of a couple of years ago when my girlfriend at the time brought me some lilies for my birthday. A short time later we broke up, though I have to admit it was me that ended the relationship. The lilies sat in my room slowly dying reminding me every day of her and what I had done.

Please buy me a coffee! 🙂
