CCC#38: Summertime (flash fiction)

Summertime

 

Vanessa lay back in the tall grasses and looked at the trees above. She had always loved summer, but this year it was rather bittersweet. Last summer she had been here with her girlfriend, but a lot had changed since then.

They had been in this field together and pledged their love for one another in this exact spot. They had laughed and kissed and hugged and shared stories with each other, but only a few months later they had broken up.

Vanessa had come back here thinking about those moments when they were still together. The last year had been the worst one of her life. There were times she thought she wouldn’t get through it. But being back here in this field made her remember about the love she had felt. She knew she would get past the hurt she was feeling, and be able to love again.
