I Know What I’m Doing… (flash fiction)

I Know What I’m Doing…

I opened up the control panel and pulled out a bunch of wires.

“What do you think you’re doing?” asked the Captain walking onto the bridge.

“The starship drive system controls are sticking. I thought I would tinker with them..”

Suddenly there was a loud bang and the entire drive system shut off. The starship was now drifting aimlessly in space.

The Captain looked apoplectic.

“Don’t worry, I can fix this!.” I said grinning at them.

  1. This brought memories of me mending my father’s almost antique typewriter. The back-stop kept sticking. I filled an entire eggcup with tiny screws, springs and washes … never did find where to put them. He never allowed me to tinker again.
