Survivors (flash fiction)

After the aliens invaded all the world’s governments systematically fell within two days. Now, several months later, only a few human survivors remained. Most of them, like us, now hid under the ground living a vastly different life from the one they had previously known.

There were around twelve of us here. We accessed our living space underground via an old building that had been left abandoned in the forest. It also served as a lookout point. Some would forage for supplies and food and, occasionally, some never came back.

We had no idea if there were other groups like ours still around. For all we knew we could be all that was left. There was no communication network, and no other way of knowing. One day they would find us. We certainly knew that. It was only a matter of time. Until then, we survived the best we could.
