Ruins
Mia returned to the farm where she had spent a magical summer during her childhood to find nothing but ruins. It shocked her when she drove down the long driveway to find the buildings empty and falling into disrepair. It looked like it had been a long time since they had been occupied, and yet it wasn’t that long ago when she had last been here, or so she thought.
She walked to the stables which had once been full of many beautiful horses, the first ones she had learned to ride, and saw all that was left was a solitary wall with a single door.
She wondered what had happened. This farm used to be full of people. There was always a hive of activity around the stables and the farmhouse and now all was desolate and empty. Where had all the people gone? Where were they now?

I know that feeling of returning to a cherished place and finding it changed

Yes it can be a very heartbreaking feeling.

A few years back I visited the village where I’d spent many summer holidays with my grandmother. So much changed. Where had all my memories gone? Sad, yes.

A sad story. I like the wonder, though, because it shows Mia’s imagination.
