Shoes (flash fiction)

Shoes

They both stood there gazing up into the branches, perplexed by the sight of a single shoe sitting there.

“Maybe it belongs to that girl, you know, the one who kills witches with her house and then steals their shoes.”

Kills witches with her house? That’s an oddly specific way to kill a witch.”

“Well it obviously worked.” the other replied.

“And why does she take the shoes? Is it some sort of trophy?”

“Maybe, though I think she just likes the shoes and, you know, takes them to wear.” The other one nodded his head in thought.

“This girl sounds formidable.”

“Yeah she definitely sounds it.” the other agreed. “Good thing we don’t have any witches living nearby.”

“That we know of.” the other added.

They both nervously scanned the sky around them for flying houses.
