Disturbance (flash fiction)

Disturbance

“Hey watcha doing?” he asks trying to be nonchalant as he sidles up to me. I keep reading doing my best to ignore him.

“I’m reading a short story by Tolkien, called Leaf by Niggle.”

“Any good?”

“It’s one of his few allegorical ones, but yeah I like it.” I reply.

“So, you wanna get a drink or something?”

“No, I want to finish this story.”

    1. I quite love the few short stories he wrote. My favourite is Smith of Wooten Major which is also worth checking out. It was written near the end of his life and refers to his own wanderings in Faerie.
