Out Riding (flash fiction)

Out Riding

“Everyone thinks your grandmother is crazy and talks to fairies.” Jess told Cindy as they rode horses together.

“I know.” Cindy replied. She chose not to tell Jess she had also seen the fairies her grandmother talked to. “Do you think she’s crazy?” Jess shrugged her shoulders.

“No. I like how she lets me sleep over with you. She’s always been nice to me.” Jess answered. Cindy smiled.

“That’s because you’re my bestie.” Cindy told her.

“You’re my bestie too. I hope we’re always besties.”

“Pinky swear?” Cindy asked holding out her pinky. Jess locked her pinky with hers.

“Best friends forever.” they chanted together. For a brief moment they held hands, before letting them fall back.

“I can’t imagine not ever being friends with you.” Jess said.

“We better get back. My grandma will be waiting for us.” They turned their horses back in the direction of the farm.

I’ve been looking at this picture all week going um. I decided to write a story about Jess and Cindy when they were younger.
