The Stars (flash fiction)

The Stars

Ashley had another vivid dream of Hazel and woke up sobbing in the darkness alone. Hazel had left her some weeks ago, and still Ashley couldn’t get Hazel out of her system. She went outside and lit a cigarette. Breathing out the smoke, she looked at the stars shining brightly above her. A shooting star lit up the sky. Ashley wished she would get past this, though she knew it was just getting through one day at a time. She spent the rest of the night watching the stars.
